Club History

The Canberra Antique and Classic Motor Club (CACMC) is one of the oldest and largest car clubs in the ACT. Formed in 1968 by a group of enthusiasts who were determined to see Canberra`s motoring heritage preserved, it has grown into a large family-oriented Club, which caters for all makes and models of cars, bikes and trucks. We have more than 250 members, who between them have more than 300 vehicles from Austins to Zephyrs, registered and running.

Club Membership

You do not need to own a heritage vehicle to join the Club. If you enjoy good comradeship and have an interest in older vehicles, why not come along to a meeting or Club run and see for yourself? Club Meetings

Monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8pm at the ACT Bridge Club, Duff Place, Deakin. The meetings enable all to talk about issues with their vehicles and seek help if needed. We have many experienced people in our Club who can advise on restoration issues or associated problems. Quite often we have Guest Speakers who address our meetings on motoring-related topics of interest. Visitors are most welcome to come along and enjoy our hospitality.

Club Events

The Club Committee arranges a program of runs around the Canberra region and we usually have one on the Sunday following the meeting. We have a well-equipped BBQ trailer which is taken on most runs, thus enabling all to enjoy a BBQ lunch along the way with their BYO food. The Club provides tea and coffee, free of charge. A number of retired folks in the Club also have lunchtime meetings at the Southern Cross Club in Woden on the first Friday of each month and then two weeks later, a car run around the region or to some venue. These get-togethers are very popular with many members other than retirees also! Every two years or so, the Club organises a tour to various parts of Australia on which members can take their heritage vehicles, or if they wish, any vehicle. Past tours have been to Alice Springs, Tasmania, the Great Ocean Road, Gippsland, the Grampians and central-west NSW.

Club Library

For those interested in restoring or maintaining a particular old vehicle, the Club maintains an extensive library of manuals, technical books on vehicle systems and many general interest motoring publications. These are available on loan to members free of charge.

Club Equipment & Club Trailer

As the cost of some vehicle maintenance equipment can be prohibitive for individuals, the Club has a number of specialist pieces of gear (eg, engine hoists, stands and tools) for free loan to members. We also have a registered car trailer which is available for loan to members. A small contribution is requested when borrowing the trailer to assist with its upkeep. The contribution is $15 for each use plus $5 per 100 km or part thereof. Any damage incurred during use MUST be paid for by the member.  Please present proof of financial membership of this Club to the custodian when collecting the trailer.  Members are responsible for compliance with all road regulations. Club Magazine

Our monthly Club magazine, The Colonial, is highly regarded in the heritage movement and is full of interesting tales and stories of motoring topics in addition to an extensive `for sale` section and photos of Club activities. The Colonial is free to members.

Concessional Registration

As we are affiliated with the ACT Council of Motor Clubs members are entitled to participate in the Concessional Registration Scheme, which enables their heritage vehicles to be registered (with certain restrictions) at greatly discounted rates for registration and third party insurance. All vehicles over 30 years of age are eligible for this scheme.

Australian Historic Motoring Federation 

The Club is also affiliated with the national Australian Historic Motoring Federation, which controls the category standards for heritage vehicles. These are:
• Veteran: Built before the end of 1918
• Vintage: Built between 1919 and 1930 inclusive
• Post Vintage: Built between 1931 and 1949 inclusive;
• Vehicles built in the decades 1950 and on are known by the word Historic and the decade, eg Historic 50s.
